Easy DIY MONEY NECKLACE - lei - Fun way to give money - Birthday, Graduation, Wedding gift idea - How to Make TUTORIAL

I've made a few different versions of a money necklace or lei but I think this one looked the best and was the easiest by far.
Other tutorials for a creative way to give money. Candy and Money Lei HERE, creative 16th birthday idea HERE and Sneaky way to give money HERE

Supplies:
Bead necklace - found at HEB in a package of 2
Birthday BOY or GIRL pin - found at HEB
20 - $1 dollar bills
Double sided tape
Curling ribbon

Accordion fold (fold back and forth) the 20 $1 bills.

Use double sided tape to attach one end making a little fan.

Using double sided tape again, attach two "fans" or two bills together putting the flat ends together.

I tried it both ways but found it easier to add the curling ribbon after I attached the two bills together.

I started by attaching the birthday boy pin the the beaded necklace with curling ribbon. I tried to make it hang straight.

I used the curling ribbon on the bills to tie on the beaded necklace. I picked two (same color or two different colors and tied in between two beads.

SO SUPER EASY!

The hardest part was to make sure it was symmetrical.
I started on one side and tried to tie them to hang evenly.

Back side of the necklace.

Some I tied two colors together (orange and blue) and others I used the same coor (two orange.)

I love how it turned out.

16th BIRTHDAY - ideas - Gas Money idea, Donuts, Candy Cake - Special teen milestone bday

16th birthday is such a milestone and deserves an extra special celebration.

We were originally NOT going to get him a vehicle for his 16th birthday. I had to work and pay for my truck and insurance when I was younger. I think you appreciate it more. Now what changed our mind.....both my car and hubby's car are acting up. By acting up, I mean my braking system is failing and we just spent $2300, $1300, $3000 for three separate visits to between his car and mine in the last three months. PLUS, I had to get two new front tires a few weeks back after a flat tire. UGH! And remember, my braking system is still failing. I have no brakes for about 2-4 mins when I first put it in reverse. It's a slow drag but you roll and jerks when you have brakes. Soooooo, we are getting it "for him" but it definitely will be used while we fix other car issues.

So enough with the downer stuff....now for his celebration stuff!!!!

Found these giant metallic balloons at Michael's and used a 50% off coupon for each.

I helped him make THIS candy cake in December for his friend and he made a comment about wanting one with Hersey's Cookies and Cream bars. TA-DA!!!

I decided to make his rectangle and used a recycled box of cereal, fruit roll ups, and protein bars. He loves green so I made the base green to match his donuts. Gold metallic shreds to match his balloons.
TUTORIAL HERE

Since we are getting him a truck I thought some gas money would be in order.

It's not new but new to him.

I found this GIANT red bow online. You just pull the strings and the bow pops open. So cool!

Finally, personalized donuts!!!! He loved them!!!

I ordered these for my boss last year and they were a huge hit.

We had a "snow day" and school was canceled. He was suppose to share them with his friends. We had donuts for breakfast and lunch and still have a ton left.

Can you freeze donuts? Lol.

Birthday success!

MONEY Lei - {{Candy & Cash}} fun creative gift idea - Graduation, Birthday

My son was invited to a birthday party last Friday and at this age (15 years old) it's not really presents any more but usually money or gift cards. Pretty much 12 years and up. :/ I love wrapping and gift cards are so boring.

ME: We should make a candy and money necklace!!!
SON: {{confused slash annoyed face}}
ME: What kid doesn't like CANDY & CASH!!???
SON: Just get a gift card
ME: Seriously, it's going to be awesome!
ME: You can have some of the candy.
SON: Sounds like a great idea.

:)

Money
Candy
Tulle or clear gift wrap
Ribbon
Double sided tape

We had Twix and M&M's. Halloween candy bought early knowing it won't even make it to October 1st. :/ At least it went to a project and I didn't eat it.

Torn between a few ideas but decided to use a roll of tulle someone gave me almost 4 years ago. Not only was I proving that being a pack rat pays off and finally using it, but I figured the tulle is stretchy enough that you could remove the candy to eat right away.

Starting with the most important part of the gift, I had my son accordion fold the 20 $1 bills.

Started with the candy at the edge of the tulle and rolled it twice. Then I used ribbon and tied one ribbon separating each piece of candy.

I used the same ribbon and tied a dollar between each candy.

I thought about making two together so it's a circle but it looks like a flower. I know he wouldn't mind a flower necklace but I like the fan look.

Used a red ribbon (to match the Twix logo) and tied a second dollar.

Used a tiny piece of double sided tape to stick the ends together.

Makes a little fan

My son absolutely LOVED it. He said it was better than a gift card.

His friend thought it was pretty cool and that was before he noticed the money. LOL!

Thank you for stopping by!
