Patriotic Theme DIPPED OREOS - Tutorial - 4th of July Party Ideas - RED,WHITE, BLUE

I LOVE dipped oreos....haven't had one? WHAT??? Oh my. YOU. MUST. TRY!!! I thought they would be overly sweet or too much chocolate but they are just SO good. {{drool}}

Supplies:
Oreo cookies
Candy Melts
Chocolate Transfer sheets (optional)
Sprinkles
Wax or parchment paper

The white polka dot sheet is a chocolate transfer. It's printed with cocoa butter making the design edible. It can be transferred from the plastic backing to melted chocolate while wet. When the plastic sheet is pulled away after it has dried, the design is left behind on the chocolate. I purchased these at a local bake shop but they are available online as well.

Measure and cut with just a little excess on the sides since the chocolate spreads when you press down

Melt chocolate until smooth. I usually microwave for 30 seconds and stir (mash) and then another 15-20 seconds. This all depends on the amount of melts you use and may melt faster if you are using a smaller amount

Dip oreo and flip until covered. Use the side of the bowl to tap the fork to remove excess chocolate. Then slide oreo to the tip of the fork and lay it on wax paper.

Apply transfer sheet with design print down

Gently press it flat. This will get any air bubbles out and make it a flat surface

The key to the transfers working is being completely dry and even that sometimes doesn't work. I place the Oreos in the freezer for about 2-5 minutes (or 5-10 minutes in the fridge) and remove transfer sheet just after taking out of the freezer. That ALWAYS works :)

Note: Do not leave them in the freezer. I made that mistake once and when they come back to room temp they were so sticky. Gross sticky. They were known in our house as "mess ups" and were gone in minutes. Apparently gross sticky did not effect the taste :)

For the sprinkles I dipped only the top.  I grabbed the Oreo already dipped by the very bottom, pressed in sprinkles and returned it to the fork to re-dip just the bottom I touched. Then slid it off the fork to wax paper

You can add the star right after you dip or you can a a little bit of chocolate and place on top. I couldn't decide if I was going to drizzle red and blue chocolate or use the stars.

Had a few eager taste testers.

I found this packaging at my bake shop and only wish it came in silver :/

Guest Book Picture Frame - Tutorial - ZEBRA and HOT PINK!

The original plan was to have her picture in the center but as the event got closer we didn't have a chance to do photos. PLAN B!!!

Super awesome, right!? I'm so excited she has this hanging in her room now!

I found this bathroom print at Wal-Mart for $9

Purchased a wooden M at Michael's craft store, spray painted and used holographic glitter

Very carefully peeled the paper backing and removed the matte and class. I used paper in between the backing and the frame to make sure not to spray paint the paper backing.

Used flat black spray paint

And then GLITTER BLAST!!! Since I painted the frame black I used Starry Night.

Finished with a clear sealer to make a nice gloss over the glitter.

I had leftover zebra print scrapbooking paper from my

After the event, you add the glass back in and now you have a nice way to remember your guests. Makes a neat keepsake.

Going Summer Color Crazy - HAIR COLOR tutorial

SECOND annual Going Summer Color Crazy :)

This started last year as a reward for such a great school year. Perfect attendance and all A Honor Roll for the entire year is something to celebrate!

After begging and pleading (and bugging) this is what they requested:

This year they both had all A Honor Roll the entire year, Citizenship award and Math Star Club award. {{insert PROUD MAMA SMILE}} It was a great year and once again the begging and bugging began. My little one was a little braver this year.

Names they came up with -  "Blue Hair I Don't Care" and "On Fire"

What's nice is by the end of summer it's grown out and hair cuts take all the color off. Something fun for summer!

It's hard to tell from the photo but little guys hair is alternating blue and teal and my mohawk guy is red, orange, and yellow.

I used Joico semi-permanent intensity color. I actually bought every color they make (not pictured) thinking I might have some fun too but that is yet to happen. I'm chicken :)

I used 30 volume developer and mixed it 1:1 with Joico Creme Lightener

We only lighten once and color a few times during the summer. It fades after a few swimming pool days and showers. The lighter it gets we either do a touch up or a different color.

20 mins on lightener, wash, dry
20 mins on color, wash, dry

Like last year I lifted the hair on the crown of his head and colored the layer just below. This way it doesn't look as bad growing out.

LAST YEAR

Totally worth every minute! He was so excited and said, "Mama, I ROCK!"
