I saw this idea when we volunteered to make testing bags for all the students at a charter school. I sat down ready to start and thought it was about about testing them. Maybe a pre-test before the test???
Lol! It's not.
It's a care package to help ease stress and anxiety from testing.
This could be for a big spelling or vocabulary test, standardized state tests, midterms, finals, SAT, ACT, etc. It can be stressful leading up to the "big day."
I thought this was such a neat idea so I made one for my son before he took his SAT.
Here are some ideas:
Encouraging card
Snack & small water.
My boys love trail mix.
Lol! This made me laugh.
Lollipop
Pencils (pre-sharpened)
Stress ball (homemade or store bought)
We used rice to make them for the charter school but I used baking soda.
I made an easy DIY stress relief ball and wrote "squeeze me" on it.
Balloons, baking soda, and funnel.
I cut the end off an empty water bottle to make the funnel.
Fill with baking soda. Leave enough room at the top to tie the balloon.
I put everything in a small bag in his favorite color. I really wanted to write all over it with good luck and do your best, but thought that would be too embarrassing.
He also had a place for his calculator, ticket to enter, and identification.
Thank you for visiting my blog. Any questions? Just ask!
We have a balloon pop tradition every year BUT not this year :( We were moving and with family coming visit at the first of the year, I couldn't pull it off. The balloon pop takes lots of planning and my craft room was a disaster. EVERYTHING was stored in the craft room until it finds a place in the attic or gets unpack. :(
We made the best of it.
We had shrimp cocktails and cheese spread, made cookies, scratched off lottery tickets and even managed a photo booth!!!
Also, because of the move we didn't send out our Christmas cards. First time in 16 years but there was no way to get clothes, take photos, edit, create a card, order, address and mail. Whew! Working full time, moving and unpacking was so crazy.
INSTEAD.....
We ended up making a New Year card AND a new home card in one. This way I could share our new address!
Since EVERY single wall was lined with boxes I used my craft room shelves for our backdrop.
I used the same wrapping paper as last year.
I found metallic curtains at Wal-Mart and purchased 2 silver and 2 gold to make the backdrop look a little different.
I love how string art looks and here's a Father's Day idea with no nails required! YAY!!! So easy!
My son attached it to the front of a book but you could make a card or frame it. It looks neat just by itself too! Such a sweet homemade gift idea.
My son was so proud and I was proud of him and his cool gift he made.
I'm thinking the age range is elementary age kids and up. I'm sure younger kids could absolutely do it, but they might need more help. Looking at the instructions it took me a few minutes to figure it out. I got the numbers but the DOWN? and UP? Then I realized it's the direction of the needle. Ahhhhh. Makes sense.
I think this is a great project that helps kids practice numbers and practice following directions. AND it's so super sweet!
Things you'll need
Card stock paper (regular printer paper does not work)
Needle (plastic or steel)
String (same area - embroidery floss or crochet thread)
Tape
Scissors
*Free* DAD Template
You can buy plastic needles or steel needles. Both are very dull and found in the Needle Art section at JoAnn Fabric & Crafts or Micheal's.
We ended up buying the steel needles since for the same price it came with 5 vs 2.
Found the string in the same area as the needles at JoAnn's. You can use embroidery floss or crochet thread. They both work great but it seems like the floss is just smaller quantity and the crochet thread was a better deal.
((FREE TEMPLATE at the end of the post))
You will need 2 - 48" and 1 - 36" long strings for each letter. (3 strings in total for each letter) The shorter string is for after the last cut or final string to finish the letter. To make it EASY you can cut all the strings 48". I'm just trying to complicate things. :) I didn't want to waste the string.
The template has a DOWN column and an UP column. This is the direction of the needle when you have the template text facing you. You only have two letter directions since you'll repeat the letter D twice. I write this because I said, "I'm missing directions for a letter!" It was late and it was only for a brief second. :)
Pre-perforate all the dots first. This will make it so much easier.
Thread the needle and tie a knot twice to make sure it doesn't come off when working.
Begin at the *start and push the needle down through #2
Pull the string almost all the way through the card stock leaving just a small end to tape. Then push the needle up through #14. Then follow the numbers and remember to cut the string when marked.
Note: You are starting with the last D in the word and working backwards.
When you are finished, cut and tape the end of the string. Do this for each letter.

The template is a photo file. When printing, if it gives an option to uncheck "fit picture to frame," uncheck it so it doesn't cut off the edges. I will try to update with an adobe version as well.
I feel like this week is such a blur. I tried to be prepared but everything that needed to get done always sneaks up on me. I started on Monday and finished the oreos by Wednesday. It took three days to make 250!!!!! Yes, I'm crazy. Then I realize I hadn't worked on Valentine's Day pics I took Sunday. Way to wait until the last minute, right!? I let the boys pick photos this year because I had so many favorites I couldn't decide. Well, it turns out they couldn't either. We ended up doing TWO cards because both ideas were really cute. Who needs sleep anyway?
CLASS, TEACHERS and 6th GRADE CAMPUS CONNECTION (Dance)

I've made these before and shared the how to make part. Check out these two links for more details.
