CRAFT ROOM TOUR - Organization, Set-up, Ideas - GARAGE Make-Over - Work in Progress

Back in August I just started making organizational progress. Whoohoo.....then, we moved. Womp womp.

Now I have my very own CRAFT ROOM!!!! Technically I had one before but it was open to the work out room and part of the garage. NOW it's my very own space for just crafts and it's bigger!!!!!!

My husband is just as excited and keeps commenting how my crap crafts are contained. Lol!!!

It's still a work in progress but I wanted to show you how it's coming along. I still need to paint, build a desk, hang my ribbon organizer (which I think will just be wrapping paper now) and build a new ribbon organizer. :D

BEFORE - storage for everything during the move plus my craft stuff all over.

A month of all the moving boxes and misc things in that room is over!!!! FINALLY making progress....again.

I used the same carpet from the old craft room but had to trim a little down. The part I'm trimming was under a garage shelving system.

Look at my cute "helper."

I like to work on my craft table but I also like to sit on the floor. Now I can do both.

I kept the same shelves and added more bins. I'm still going through boxes, so many boxes.

I used the top shelf to display some of my photos. :) My BFF and crafting twin suggested and I love it.
I made more labels since I'm moving things around but yet to attach them.

I even made a little sitting area because I had the space. :)

Material was leftover from a baby photo shoot years ago. Plus it's hiding ugly spots on the wall.

Awe!

Next, I need to move all the wrapping paper and shelf in the corner. I want to hang my wrapping paper and organize my ribbon on the other wall.

Animal Shelter RICE SOCKS - GIVING BACK - How to help - Great for kids!

Rice socks are an easy way to help the animal shelters.

I'm doing a series of ways kids can get involved with giving back. These are all crafts we've done at home or with a large group.

Here are my five categories we'll be involved with this month and I'll post ideas for each one.

Easy for little kids to do and great way to help the shelter.

WHY DO THIS?
Rice socks are used at animal shelters as heating pads. They warm them in the microwave and use to sooth after spay/neuter surgery or placed with baby kittens or puppies for warmth.

Socks
Plain rice
Scoopers
Fabric markers (optional but fun)

Simply fill the sock with rice and tie.

Have fun decorating them with fabric markers! My son made the cat :)

We had a big group and made 45!!!

Plus you might get to play with some of the animals when you drop them off.

Other ways to help animal shelters:
Make cat toys with fleece, string, and straws.

Make dog toys by braiding fleece.

Our animal shelter has an area for cats with Feline Leukemia. Most are nearing the end and sadly they don't get to leave. The boys go in and read to them.

Not only do the boys get practice reading but the kitties get some company.

SEED BALLS - GIVING BACK to our Environment - How to help - Great for kids!

Seed balls are so fun to make!

We've been making them for years and I thought I would do a series of ways kids could get involved with giving back. These are all activities we've done at home or with a large group.

Here are my five categories we'll be involved with this month and I'll post ideas for each one.

This one is easy for little kids to do and great way to care for our environment. The best time to spread them in Austin is between September to April. If you live in a colder area check the last frost day and spread after.

WHY DO THIS?
To help grow native plants and wildflowers in an effort to reduce soil erosion and create pollution barriers along local creeks. They also improve water quality and provide wildlife habitat and food.

WHERE TO SPREAD?
Grow Zones also know as no mow zones are designated areas of a park, trail, or creek that will give your seed balls a chance to germinate and grow.

Clay (craft store)
Compost / soil
Native wildflower seeds
Water (spray bottle)
Gloves
Tray
Newspaper (optional)

1 cup clay, 1 cup compost, 1/4 cup seeds.

Mix well

Slowly add water. We found that spray bottles work best.

Mix until you are able to roll into a ball.

Roll balls the size of a penny up to the size of a quarter. Larger balls are okay but take longer to break down.

If you are wondering about the pink hair, it was October (2015) and he did it for breast cancer awareness month. :)

You can spread them right away by tossing them in a Grow Zone. Or spread later by letting them dry on newspaper. When dry, gently fold newspaper and store in a cardboard container (shoe box) until ready to use.

One year we made them with 6 families.

Keep Austin Beautiful has activity kits you can check out. They supply everything!

We set up supplies, trays, and water bottles.

Other ways to care for our environment:
Plant seedlings

Park clean-up

Do it as a family activity.

Start them young!!! This was 2005 :) They were hooked ever since.
