DIY luau themed water bottles - Mini bikini top & HULA skirt - Fun summer party ideas

Aren't they the cutest?!!!! Mini bikini top and hula skirt water bottles. I've seen the little hula skirts sold for cans or water bottles BUT they're over $7 for 4!!! Since I'm making these for a themed bingo at our local retirement residence, I'm trying to do everything as inexpensive as possible. We are planning for 20+ people!!!!

I'm using leftover rolls of crape paper streamers from the last office birthday celebration. I was down to the very ends of the rolls and not enough to decorate again.

PLEASE NOTE that I don't think they hold up with condensation. Luckily the residents like everything room temp. Whew! I would suggest trying plastic table covers. Fairly inexpensive and comes in lots of colors. The dollar store carries them!

Bikini top - I cut each top 10 1/2" but I used smaller water bottles. Measure and take in account that you twist the paper so cut extra.

I pinched the center to create the bikini top.

I spaced out a little over a 1/2" and pinched the crepe paper on each side.

I wrapped a small piece of yellow crepe paper for the center of the bikini top.

 Starting at the pinched area I twisted the crepe paper to the end.

I used a tiny bit of hot glue starting in the center and attached the back of straps.

Hula skirt - I cut the hula skirt 9" and made cuts about half way up along the crepe paper.

The tricky part was to make the crepe paper flare out a little to look like a skirt. While supporting the strands I gently ran my finger nail down a couple at a time.

IF you do it too hard you'll tear the strands off. :( Trial and error but this step makes the hula skirts look even cuter. 

 To make the little flowers I cut small 1" pieces of crepe paper and cut those in half. Rolled into little balls and hot glued 5 in a row and waited until dry. Then attached the end to make a circle and added a little yellow ball in the center. Time consuming but the skirt needed something and it turned out cute.

FROZEN treats for dogs - Cool ideas for summer- DIY Homemade

Not only does it seem refreshing for a hot day but it also keeps my dogs entertained! Here are three COOL summer ideas for dog treats.

KONG

FILL and FREEZE!

Treat dispensing Kong toy

KONG PUPPY KONG, KONG CLASSIC SMALL, KONG CLASSIC MEDIUM  & KONG CLASSIC LARGE toys.

Fill treat with:

Easy Treat Paste by Kong. Comes in Peanut Butter, Liver, Pepperoni, and Cheese and Bacon flavor.

Squeezable cheese (less expensive)

or

Peanut butter/almond butter

I just insert the nozzle and bend. Fills in seconds. 

When frozen it lasts so much longer!

FROZEN TREAT BOWL

Pick a few treats from each box. I like to freeze in a couple steps so the treats that float or sink don't end up on the top or bottom.

Fill bowl with treats and 1/2 the water - FREEZE

More treats and add water - FREEZE again

Optional but I like to add a little low sodium broth and freeze again. :)

Plastic bowls works best. Just a little pressure and they pop right out.

I usually place them in an empty (larger) water bowl. This way it stays in one place and the cool melted water/broth doesn't go to waste.

You can also set on the ground. They push it all over but it will melt faster. 

Note: Keep in mind the ice evaporates over time. Best if used within a few weeks of being made.

SMOOTHIE BONES

I found these cute 2 Pack Dog Bone and Paw Print Mold online but you can use any shape mold. I'm pretty sure my dogs don't care.

Yogurt, banana, and almond or peanut butter in a blender.

I usually do 1-2 bananas, 1 cup almond butter, 1 cup yogurt. Sometimes if it's too thick I add a little water.

TIP: Place the mold on a cutting board or baking sheet. Makes it easier to transfer to the freezer.

FREEZE!

The boys think these are fun since they can eat them too. :)

Embossed FOIL ART - Summer CRAFT for kids - DIY - Homemade COLORFUL gift idea

The boys made this card for my Mom's birthday but it would be a cute gift or fun summer craft!

Things you'll need:
card stock, cardboard, or canvas
glue gun & glue sticks (SMALLER KIDS - Elmer's glue and yarn)
heavy duty foil
Elmer's glue or adhesive spray
Q-tips or paint brush
Sharpie markers

I found these sharpie markers at Michael's and used a $50% off coupon.

I suggest to pre-draw designs with pencil to make sure they include areas to color in. For example, use block letters.

This design was kinda small and harder to get details to show. The BIGGER the design the better it turns out and easier to work with.

Trace design with hot glue gun or smaller kids can glue yarn down. Let dry.

We used adhesive spray but I think Elmer's glue works best to get the foil closer to the edges. If you use Elmer's glue, don't apply too much.

 Lay foil on top of board or canvas starting in the center and slowly work your way out. This way the foil is not too tight.

Use a stiff paintbrush or q-tips and carefully push foil down and close to the hot glue or yarn. It will tear easily so be gentle.

Once dry, color with sharpie markers.
