Memorial Day FUN! Operation Honor Our Heroes, Lake & (Man vs Food) BBQ!

I wanted to post this earlier this week but better late than never :) That seems to be my blog post motto.

We visited Operation Honor Our Heroes in downtown Austin where 7,000 flags were set up to honor our fallen heroes from Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation New Dawn.

This was a great way to give the boys a perspective and explain why we celebrate Memorial Day.

If you want to see more information about this organization please visit http://www.honorheroes.org

Then fun with friends

And finally a nice BBQ with a Man vs Food challenge

The boys watched the episode where Adam was challenged to eat a Juicy Lucy stuffed burger. This was our take on that burger and the results....1 MAN 2 FOOD

CHEESY!!!!

My hubby's burger

1lb meat, jalapeno jack cheese, fresh jalapeno, and shredded jalapeno jack cheese. He seasoned the meat and left some of the meat to the side for the top of the burger

Made it look like a flat bowl (edges are higher to hold the stuffing)

Loaded three slices of jalapeno jack cheese

One fresh jalapeno diced

Topped with shredded jalapeno jack cheese. Why shredded? Well it was a spur of the moment thing because when I went grocery shopping I didn't know if he wanted sliced or shredded so I got both. He decided to use both.

Flatten the extra meat that was set aside

Pinched the edges tightly

20 mins on each side on the grill (40 mins total) They are huge and this is for Medium Well

For the boys (no jalapenos)
1lb of meat and colby jack cheese

Same cooking time

Ooooohhhh Aaaaahhhh

buttered and seasoned corn

Yummmmy!

Bacon Wrapped STUFFED jalapenos.....{{drooling}} These are awesome!

BBQ cupcake TUTORIAL - Mini BBQ GRILL tops! SO SUPER CUTE!

I made these last year for Memorial Day and for a themed teacher luncheon a couple of years ago. ALWAYS a huge hit!!

BBQ GRILL CUPCAKES!!!

Gummy bears, Parchment paper or wax paper, sparkle gel, candy melts, food color,
 toothpicks, and edible markers

Gummy bear cruelty. Cut the gummy bears apart into threes. Hubby thought I was having an anger issue and not sure why I was cutting the heads off gummy bears. Haha!

Shish Kabobs!!!

I used the top to a large sprinkle container to trace my template. Perfect size!

Melted and mixed black candy melts and white candy melts.

I used a #2 tip and placed parchment paper over my template and traced grill tops :)

I did the same thing in THIS POST and it has a little more detail pictures.

Made a few extra incase they break when removing them.

Once done I placed them in the fridge to dry and harden faster. You can do room temp but they melt in your hands too fast.

Made cheese

I made these kinda fast and now looking at the pic they look like more like poo patties then hamburgers....ummm....I'm glad I added the cheese :)

Colored my icing yellow and orange

alternated colors when filling the bag

I don't like dark colors or red since they stain kids teeth/mouth :/ I opted for Wilton Sparkle Gel for red.
Great for cupcakes but doesn't dry well so I would not recommended it for cookies.

Placed my grill tops

Then all the BBQ "food"
Mini hamburgers (some with cheese and some without,) kabobs, and steaks.
All made from candy melts except the kabobs.

TA-DAAAA!!!

Nail Stickers!! Quick and Easy - tutorial

I'm obsessed! I found these about two months ago and love love love them!
NAIL STICKERS!!!

I wash my hands and hand sanitize ALL day long and they make my nails much stronger and they last for over a week. (one set lasted for 20 days!!!) No nail polish chips, no broken nails, and since I'm such a hand talker (like directing traffic) my nails look great all the time.

I would like to say my hands are really dry and I just took off red nail polish prior to putting these stickers on....translation - no comments about my crappy looking hands. :)

Takes about 7-10 mins to apply. A little longer the first time but it gets quicker.

I purchased these at HEB for $5.97.

These are the only ones I've tried but her are other brands ranging up to $13

Start by taking off all nail polish and file. I cleaned up my cuticles as well.

Place strip over the nail to measure. Make sure you start on one side and bend the sheet to see if it covers to the other side. If you place one that is too small they will wrinkle and lift. Sometimes they look a little big but once I press the edges they fit perfect.

Grab stickers at the very bottom since that part will not be attached to the nail. Don't want to weaken the stickiness.

Start at the cuticle

Press firmly for a few seconds

They go around the edges and press to make sure they are attached

Now to remove the excess edge

I fold it over

With a DOWNWARD motion I file all the sides. If you go back and forth it will lift the sticker.
It doesn't take much.

The edges are filed enough to just pull the excess piece off

Then again in one motion NOT back and forth you can clean up the edges or a jagged spots.

These ended up be my least favorite of the ones I've put on so far. Not that they didn't last but in the beginning I washed my hands a bunch after putting them on and they had a few wrinkles. I put clear nail polish under and pressed down and they looked fine. But still, such a pain after I just put them on. The white also showed wear when they started to dull around the edges after about 7 days. I wore them for 11 days and unless you were up close they looked fine.

MY FAVORITE were the pink zebra with jewels. THIS IS AFTER 20 days and they looked AWESOME!

They even have them for kids!!!! These fit a 2yr old.
