Pet Keepsake - MEMORY Stepping Stone - HOW TO WRITE IN CEMENT - Paw print - DIY Garden memorial

Today is a sad sad day in our house. Our beloved Rolo passed away.

We knew he was winding down. :( He has had trouble gaining weight for awhile and now he is loosing strength to stand.  We decided on the way home from school to grab some cement mix and made a memorial stepping stone.

Tub of cement for $7.97 and Home Depot and at home had some glass, stones, rocks and a couple cake tins.

I mixed 4 1/2 cups of cement with 1 1/2 cups of water in a gallon ziplock bag so it could be disposed of easily. I put rubber gloves on to spread the mixture in the cake tin and tapped it on the counter to make the top smooth.

We helped Rolo stand up and pressed his foot down to make one print in the center. We used a bowl of warm water to wash his foot off.

We originally tried to write in the concrete but it looked a mess. I searched for lettered stamps but I must've gave them away when we recently moved.

Used cardstock and cut it into strips to make some of the letters and numbers.

For the letter O and zeros were made with icing tips.

After we made the dates and his name we were going to use little stones and crystals but the boys just wanted to add a dog bone. We used a real dog bone to make the impression.

Let dry for 48hrs.

When dry we'll use acrylic paint and seal with a cement sealer.

Our sweet doggie will be missed. So many great memories.

He won several Halloween competitions.

He did not like bubbles.

He would sing.

He loved to dress up and went crazy if you were holding clothes or glasses for him.

He visited the retirement residence often.
